You will have an x-ray and, in some cases, a CT scan to help visualise your jaw, ensure your gums are healthy and that there is enough jaw bone to place the implant.
The treatment: This is when the implant is placed into your jaw. It’s a straightforward process which can be completed under local anaesthetic. If you are particularly nervous or have a dental phobia, your dentist will make sure you feel absolutely comfortable with the treatment, and can provide sedation if needed.
The implants will need three to six months to heal and integrate with your jaw bone to provide a solid support for the crown or bridge.
Restoration:It may be necessary to have a separate appointment between six weeks and six months after your initial treatment, to allow the implant to fully integrate. This ensures that your jaw has completely healed before the crown or bridge is permanently fitted.

Joe is a dentist with a special interest in Dental Implants and Oral Surgery. He was born in Liverpool and originally completed a Physiology degree at the University of Liverpool. He then moved to London and completed his Postgraduate Dentistry training at King’s College London before moving back home to practice. He began his Implant training with the prestigious British Academy of Implant and Restorative Dentistry (BAIRD), where he developed a deep understanding of evidence-based techniques in dental implantology.
Furthering his expertise, Joe went on to earn a postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has also completed additional training in the placement of immediate implants (placed at the same time as tooth removal), bone grafting and sinus lifts. His quest to further his knowledge has already taken him to Germany, Greece and Jordan as well as all over the UK.
Passionate about sharing knowledge and nurturing the next generation of implant dentists, Joe has remained closely involved with the BAIRD program, serving as both a clinical mentor and examiner. His dedication to education ensures he stays at the forefront of the latest developments in implant dentistry, which translates into the highest standard of care for his patients.
With a calm and thoughtful approach, Joe is known for delivering precise, patient-centered implant treatment plans, whether replacing a single tooth or undertaking full arch rehabilitation.
Outside of dentistry Joe enjoys football, golf, keeping fit and spending time with his wife and little boy.
